Why SSL matters — HTTPS, trust and Google visibility

Why SSL matters

SSL (now TLS) is the technology that encrypts traffic between the browser and the server. When a site has SSL, the address starts with https:// and the browser shows a padlock. Without it, all data — including form passwords and contact details — travels in plain text.

Three reasons SSL is not optional

1. Security

Encryption stops outsiders from reading or altering traffic. This is essential whenever a site collects enquiries, logins or payments.

2. Customer trust

Browsers flag HTTP pages as "Not secure". Many visitors leave immediately. The padlock in the address bar is a small but decisive signal of trust.

3. Search visibility

Google has used HTTPS as a ranking factor for years. An unsecured page loses to a secured competitor in the results when other factors are equal.

Does SSL cost a lot?

No. We use Let's Encrypt certificates, which are free and renew automatically. SSL is included as standard in all our hosting packages — together with one email address on your own domain.

A common mistake: mixed content

When a site moves to HTTPS, some images or scripts may still load over HTTP. This mixed content breaks the padlock. We fix these during the migration.
